Werka Chelchele Yirgacheffe

A washed Yirgacheffe with jasmine, bergamot, and a black-tea finish — the archetypal bright Ethiopian filter cup.

Light-roasted coffee beans on a wooden surface, evoking the jasmine and bergamot notes of Werka Chelchele Yirgacheffe

Grown above 1,950m around the Werka Chelchele washing station in Gedeo Zone, this lot is a blend of smallholder deliveries from the heirloom-variety gardens that surround Yirgacheffe town. Cherries are floated, pulped within hours of picking, and fermented underwater for roughly 36 hours before soaking and sun-drying on raised beds.

The cup is the reason Yirgacheffe built its reputation: jasmine and bergamot up front, a light citrus acidity, and a black-tea structure that lingers into the finish.

Producer

Delivered by several hundred smallholders farming half-hectare garden plots interplanted with ensete and shade trees, then processed as a single washing-station lot.

Terroir

Deep red clay soils and cool highland nights across Gedeo Zone slow cherry ripening and concentrate aromatic compounds.
